Understanding Florida's Annual Evaluation Requirement

Florida law allows parents to choose one of five methods to satisfy the annual evaluation requirement:

Portfolio review conducted by a Florida-certified teacher.

A nationally normed achievement test administered by a certified teacher.

A state student assessment administered through the school district.

An evaluation conducted by a licensed psychologist.

Another valid measurement tool mutually agreed upon by the parent and the district superintendent.
Every family enrolled in a Florida Home Education Program is required to submit an annual educational evaluation demonstrating that their student is making educational progress appropriate for their age and ability, as required by Florida law.
The purpose of the evaluation is not to compare your child to public school students or determine whether they have completed a particular curriculum. Instead, it documents that meaningful educational progress has been made during the school year.
A Florida homeschool evaluation is an annual requirement verifying your child is making educational progress. Due by your "homeschool anniversary" (one year after submitting your initial Letter of Intent), you can choose from five methods, the most popular being a portfolio review by a valid Florida-certified teacher.
